Paint Makeover

The buffet in my dining room is a great example of how a simple paint update can make a huge difference.  Duh, we all know that paint is one of the simplest and quickest ways to change the look of something.  This is not new info.  But that doesn’t stop me from admiring the results and simplicity of a good paint makeover!  Oh. My. Gosh. This buffet took some time to paint, but the results speak for themselves!  Here’s the buffet at its starting point.

Once the painting was completed it was so nice and clean…but it still needed some contrast.

Deciding to paint the interior of the glass display cabinets, I played around with some paint chips, some various shades of yellows and golds, and was excited to get to work after selecting my favorite.  Designer tip here!  Oil-based paint is much better to use on woodwork.  It is more durable, which is desirable for woodwork, and easily two coats are sufficient in the end, plus the paint glides on so smoothly, like butta.  I will warn that it is a bitch to clean up though and it can be a bit on the stinky side.  This photo pretty clearly shows what a difference painting the interior cabinet made with side by side before and after examples!

I think this buffet looks so much better and all it took was some paint, effort, and some time!

I love a simple makeover like this.  It’s one I do quite often.   Share your paint makeovers!
